Spirit tipsFinger prosthetic designed and crafted just for you for free! If you are here, you have had an accident
that may effect you in a big way, if you play the guitar or use your
fingertips in any job or pursuit you enjoy, this is a hard thing to deal
with no matter the amount of finger you have lost. I really understand how you are feeling at this point
and can offer some comfort, rest assured, I will do all I can to try and
help give you the range you had pre accident. There are a few things that have to happen first, you have to give the damaged area enough time to heal, to the point that swelling has gone and good skin has formed fully over damaged area. See that no infections are present at all and that you have full range movement in the finger or fingers damaged. This can take about three months,(dont despair- Healing has to be complete, swelling is a part of the repair process). If however you have any concerns, if the damaged area changes colour, feels hot, swells or gets infected go back to the hospital and have them look at it. So what can you
expect during the healing process? During the healing process you may have severe nerve pains, sometimes they will come it seems from other fingers, you may have a twitch that is there sometimes, that also is normal. As bad as the damage may seem, the mind will play an important part in the future usage of the finger- you will no doubt feel very low and wonder how you will get through this, I did myself, I remember crying when alone, putting my guitars away and being very bad tempered in general for my loss.....it is just that, a loss, you will never have it back but- here you are on this site considering making this situation work for you! For me I found the kind words and wishes from fellow guitar players on a famous brand guitar website invaluable- constantly I was being reminded of other guitar players who overcame such damage to play again, like lommi and others! There is no reason why you cannot make something positive come of this self pity is not required and will hold you up getting better in many ways. Absorb all you can thats good, people at work and those that see you often, friends and family will all be asking often about you and your finger- take that as genuine concern and see it as YOU matter to them. Every few days you will notice things about your damaged finger that are changing, healing has begun!
